With reference to Your Excellency's letter No. 5083/1911

of 6th. December last, relative to the employment of the Crown

Solicitor on Admiralty légal work, I have the honour to acquaint

you that the Lords of the Admiralty have decided that it would

be preferable on the whole that private practitioners should

continue to be employed as Admiralty Solicitors generally; and

that the advice of the Crown Solicitor shall only be obtained in special cases where for some particular reason it may be con-

-sidered desirable.

Their Lordships understand this course to be in general agreement with the views expressed in Your Excellency's letter abore quoted, and they are glad to avail themselves of your suggestion that they can retain the service of the Crown

Solicitor in such special cases.

I have etc.,

(Sd.) Robert H. Anstruther,

Commodore.

His Excellency

The Governor, Hongkong.
